Notes
Mauser Model 1895 bolt-action rifle, Anglo Boer War Used by Boers in South African War. The name F.A.J. Pretorius is carved on the stock. The rifle possibly belonged to Frederick Abraham Jacobus Pretorius, a burgher who was described as a "Cape Rebel" who farmed the 'Rietpoort' in the Cradock district of the Cape Colony. He was aged 27 when captured at Paardefontein on 5.9.1901 and sent to Hawkins POW Camp on the island of Bermuda.
