Introduced, cool season, perennial bulbous herb to 45 cm tall. Leaves several in number are basal, linear and annual. Flowerheads are racemes with the uppermost flowers sterile. Flowers are scented, dark blue with paler or white lobes and 4–6 mm long; the perianth is tubular, urceolate-globose, with sharply contracted mouth and 6 short lobes. A native of SE Eur & Asia Minor, it is an ornamental that has become naturalised on the Southern Tablelands and is a probable weed of the future.
