Hazel Hunkins of Billings, Mont., was a graduate of Vassar College and later a professor of chemistry at the University of Missouri. She joined the suffrage movement as an organizer for the NWP and was active in all picket campaigns. She was sentenced to 15 days in jail for participation in a Lafayette Square meeting at which NWP activists were arrested as they spoke.
