ID#: 2720 Description: This photomicrograph of a blood smear contains both immature and mature trophozoites of the Plasmodium vivax parasite.

An immature trophozoite of P. vivax is shown at the top of the slide in its characteristic ring shape, while the mature trophozoites contain large ameboid cytoplasms with large chromatin and fine yellowish brown pigment. Content Providers(s): CDC/Dr. Mae Melvin Creation Date: 1973
