Il s'agit d'un épisode d'une pièce de kabuki très connue, où l'esprit d'un héron blanc se réincarne sous les traits d'une jeune fille elle-même vêtue de blanc. Le rôle de la jeune fille était tenu par l'acteur de kabuki Segawa Kikunôjo II.
