The portrait was sold at Christie's, King Street, London, on 25 November 2003 (Sale no. 6829) as "Portrait of a gentleman, traditionally identified as George Bruere, Governor of Bermuda, three-quarter-length, seated in a blue coat and yellow waistcoat".
