As alligators age, they tend to lose the "callico" or yellowish coloring on their heads and bodies. Usually, gators loose this pattern around 4 years of age. you can tell the length of an alligator from measuring the distance between their eye and nose bumps. This distance (in inches) is approximately the same in feet. So if the alligator is about 3 inches between eyes and snout, it is approximately 3 feet long from head to tail.
