Description

Tinted postcard of Herne Bay Pier, Herne Bay, Kent, postmarked 1905. The photographer was Fred C. Palmer, who is believed to have died 1936-1939. At the time of this photograph he was probably still working from Herne Bay High Street, as his Tower Studio address does not appear alongside his name on the back of the card.

Points of interest
  • The Grand Pier Pavilion was not yet built; it was completed in 1910.
  • The theatre building in the foreground burned down in 1928.
  • On the right hand side of the shops alongside the theatre building, can be seen part of the London Bridge stone balustrade which was given to the town in the 1830s when the bridge was demolished. This balustrade was removed in the 1950s after a storm, and its whereabouts is unknown.
