English: A U.S. Navy McDonnell F-4B Phantom II from Fighter Squadron 21 (VF-21) "Freelancers" returns to the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVA-41), after a mission over north Vietnam, in 1965. The Commander Air Group Landing Signal Officer (CAG LSO or CAG Paddles), LCDR Vernon Jumper, talks to the pilot on the radio, advising him as his plane approaches the pitching deck of the carrier. VF-21 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 2 (CVW-2) aboard the Midway for a deployment to Vietnam from 6 March to 23 November 1965.
