(April 23, 2009) Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL (BUD/S) candidates check their underwater breathing apparatuses for proper ventilation and safety before participating in dive training in Coronado Bay. Diving is an eight-week course during the second phase of training that prepares, develops and qualifies candidates as basic combat swimmers. BUD/S candidates must complete three phases of training and qualify in advanced training during a yearlong program to become Navy SEALs.
