DescriptionEast Street Bridge (715.3113046.CP).jpg
A view looking North to the East Street Bridge over what was known as "Butcher's Run." The East Street Bridge passed over what was then known as "Butcher's Run." The bridge, which opened September 15, 1930, was built and owned by the City of Pittsburgh. Officially named the E. H. Swindell Bridge, the bridge has also been known as the Essen Street, but is most often referred to as the East Street Bridge. The bridge is of an arched cantilever design with a deck about 225 feet above East Street. The total bridge span is about 1200 feet long with a main span of about 500 feet. I-279 passes below the bridge today.
