Über dem Schild befindet sich eine dreitürmige steinfarbene in rot dargestellte Mauerkrone.“ Die heraldisch korrekte Blasonierung muss heißen:„In Grün ein rotbewehrter goldener Löwe; im Oberwappen eine zinnenbewehrte dreitürmige rote Mauerkrone.“

Deutsch: Das Wappen ist abgeleitet von einem Siegel aus dem Jahre 1318. Der : Löwe steht für die früheren Landesherren der
Fürsten von Lüneburg. Die Mauerkrone steht für die Stadt als solche; die Stadtrechte wurden Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts verliehen.
English: The arms is derived from a seal of 1318. They show the lion of Lüneburg to which the town belonged till 1705. The mural crown symbolises the town as such.
