Union Cemetery-Beatty Park, is a site on the
National Register of Historic Places in
Steubenville, Ohio. This is the memorial to civil war veterans. Graves of veterans are in foreground. Stele in front reads “To the unknown dead”. Square stone behind reads “E. M. Stanton Post G.A.R.” on top and “By an act of the General Assembly in 190(?), it is made the responsibility of the county commissioners to provide for the proper care of the graves of the soldiers and sailors buried here. Next is flagpole and cannon. On top of hill is monument. Front of monument reads “To the deceased soldiers and sailors of Jefferson County, Ohio who served in the Union Army and Union Navy during the Great War for the Suppression of the Rebellion from 1861 to 1865. Erected by the loyal citizens of Jefferson County A.D. 1869”. Rear of monument reads ”Bull Run Corinth Perryville Antietam Stone River Gettysburg Chickamauga Wilderness Atlanta Cedar Creek New Orleans Mobile.
