Pour le remercier, le roi de France l'autorise à les transformer le papelonné en fleurs de lys (selon Joinville). C'est exactement la même tradition non fondée, d'autant plus que le baron de Châteaubriant, comme tout porteur d'armoiries, n'avait absolument pas besoin de l'autorisation du roi de France (qui n'était d'ailleur pas son suzerain) pour changer ses armes et y mettre des fleurs de lys.
