Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde der Stadt St. Pölten von
König Ferdinand I. am 3. November 1538 verliehen. Der vordere Teil des Wappens zeigt den umgekehrten österreichischen
Bindenschild als Zeichen der landesfürstlichen Zugehörigkeit der Stadt. Der Wolf entstammt dem Wappen des
Bistums Passau, zu dessen Besitz St. Pölten vom 12. bis zum zum 15. Jahrhundert gehörte.
English: The arms are granted on November 3, 1538. They show the austrian fess-shield with changed colours, as sign of the belonging to the country. The wolf ist derived from arms of the
Diocese of Passau, to which the city belongs from the 12th to the 15th century.
