Zhang Hao ( Chinese: 章昊, Korean: 장하오; born July 25th, 2000) is a Chinese singer, dancer, musician, and music teacher. He is active as a member and the center of South Korean boy group Zerobaseone since placing first in Mnet reality competition show Boys Planet in 2023 [1] [2].
Zhang was born July 25th, 2000, in Xiamen, China. He took the Gaokao at age 16 [3] and planned to attend China University of Geosciences before deciding to pursue a music career instead [4]. He retook the CSATs for arts three months later, placing first in Fujian Province [3] [5], and ended up attending Fujian Normal University [3] [5] [4] [6], where he graduated in 2021 with a certification in Music Science Education [4] [7]. Zhang worked as a music teacher [7] and freelance violinist [3] before being scouted by agents from Yue Hua Entertainment and moving to South Korea to become an idol trainee in 2021 [3] [4] [8]. He trained for one year and three months before his appearance on Mnet Boys Planet in February of 2023 [6] [9].
Prior to his trainee life, Zhang had a passion for K-pop music since high school, particularly boy group GOT7, whom he considers his role models [10] [11].
Zhang was revealed as a contestant on upcoming Mnet survival show Boys Planet on December 29th, 2022 [12]. The Boys Planet opening theme, "난 빛나 (Here I Am)", was released on YouTube on the same day, showing Zhang as the G-Group center, with Sung Han-bin as the K-Group center [13]. In the first episode, he performed a cover of NCT 127's " Kick It" with fellow G-Group (foreign) Yuehua trainees Brian, Ricky, and Ollie, receiving an All-Star ranking from the judges, and maintained it through the next evaluation [14] [15]. In subsequent episodes, Zhang performed a cover of BLACKPINK's " Kill This Love" in the K vs. G-Group Battle (his team being the only G-Group team to beat the K-Group in on-site voting [16]), (G)I-DLE's " Tomboy" in the Dual Position Battle (winning first place in his team in on-site voting), and earned the center spot in the original Boys Planet song "Over Me" for the Artist Battle (again placing first in his team). On April 20th, 2023, during the finale of Boys Planet, Zhang was announced to have placed first in final rankings, securing his debut in WakeOne project group Zerobaseone and a spot as the group's center, and also becoming the first non-Korean center in an Mnet survival show [17].
