Yao Emei (Chinese: 姚鄂梅; born December 8, 1968) is a multi-award-winning Chinese writer from Yidu, Hubei. She currently resides in Shanghai, partaking in the first postgraduate programme for writers in Shanghai. [1]
Yao Emei is an author of books for both adults and children. Her work has been translated from Chinese into English, Russian, German, Japanese , Korean, and other languages. She has won the People's Literature award, the Selection of Novella award, and the Shanghai Literature Excellent Novella Award and several other major national literary awards.
She is the author of several novels including Our Days, Eager to Fly and her upcoming novel The Unfilial: Four Tragic Tales from Modern China, set to be published on 28th September 2024. [2] Additionally, she has written children's literature such as Tilted Sky and I am a Genius. [3]
In 2021, Yao Emei's novella collection Family Life was published by People's Literature Publishing House. With its exquisite layout and surgical writing style, Yao presents various truths of family life, making it a delightful surprise for many readers and receiving considerable attention. The collection was recommended as one of the top reads of the year, earning a place on various annual lists including the Douban 2021 Annual Reading List for domestic original works. [4]
