Toms River Intermediate East was founded in c.1951 [3] on 1519 Hooper Ave, Toms River, Ocean County, New Jersey under Toms River Regional Schools, making it the oldest of the middle schools and the oldest of the elementary schools as well. In 2020 there was an apparent incident with an 8th grade social studies teacher, Lawrence Cuneo. Allegedly he made his students pick up cotton while he pretended to whip them. He also apparently, as part of a Black History Lesson, made his students lay on the ground and kicked their feet. The teacher defended himself saying he was trying to show how horrible slavery was and that he didn't mean to make anyone feel uncomfortable or upset. [4]
There are many sports that the Rockets participate in. These sports include baseball, track, cross-country, field hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball and wrestling. [5]
The School Administration includes principal Bryan A. Madigan, two assistant principals, William Baxter and James Cleveland, Administrative Assistant Adriene Lazzaro and TREA Administrative Assistant Jessica Hilsdorf. [6]
