Revenue Divisional Offices are administrative units of the Government of Tamil Nadu responsible for looking after the district revenue functions. Each of these offices is headed by a Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) [1], conventionally an individual promoted from the position of Tehsildar, or Sub-Collectors selected from among the Indian Administrative Service Officers. Each district is divided into sub-divisions where the Revenue Divisional Officer, the District Collector or the Sub-Collector heads. His responsibilities comprise the Revenue Administration, maintenance of Law and Order, Land Administration, and Revenue Village Administration at the divisional level. There are close to 100 RDOs within the State. [2]
