Radio Dublino is an independent, non-commercial, on-air and online radio show in Ireland run by volunteers that serves Dublin's Italian community. Established in 2013 by Maurizio Pittau as Ireland's first Italian-language radio show, it produces programming both in English and Italian and plays both Irish and Italian music. It is based in Dublin. The programme addresses the Italian community in Ireland, Irish speakers of Italian, and all residents in Dublin interested in Italian culture, Italian music, and the Italian language. Radio Dublino covers various topics: Italian language teaching, news from Italy and Ireland, Italian music, information about intercultural events in Dublin, and interviews with Italians living in Dublin or Irish speakers of Italian. Maurizio Pittau is being awarded “Language Ambassador of the Year 2015” by the EU. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Since 2017, Radio Dublino has organised the Italian Fusion Festival, which has become Europe's most prominent Italian Festival. The festival aims to promote cultural exchanges between Italy and Ireland through several bands based in Ireland whose music results from the collaboration between Irish and Italian musicians. It also includes a short video competition, poetry reading, art exhibitions, vintage Vespa exhibition, workshops and Italian food/drinks. [7] [8] [9] [10]
