NewU University [1] [2] is a private not-for-profit university in Washington, D.C. It is licensed by the Washington D.C. Higher Education Licensure Commission. [3] NewU offers bachelor's degrees in three years instead of the customary four and tuition price is locked in for a student’s entire education. [4]
Bachelor's degree programs in Psychology & Human Behavior, Entrepreneurship, Creativity & Innovation Leadership, Sustainability & Climate Change, and Computer & Data Science. [5] The university welcomed its first freshmen class in Fall 2022 [6]
The campus is located in Downtown Washington D.C. [7]
NewU University, whose legal name is NewU Inc, has a Gold Seal of Transparency from Candid (organization). [8]
NewU was founded by Stratsi Kulinski. [9]
NewU is a partner of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). [10]
In May 2023, an unrelated institution, the University of Idaho [11] created an entity to purchase the University of Phoenix [12] and named the entity "NewU, Inc." [13]
NewU University reacted with a claim for trademark infringement of its registered trademark "NewU Inc." [14] This led to the change of the name of the newly formed entity [15], but the matter of monetary damages or inter-institutional collaboration is still open [16]. The naming issue brought into question the whole purchase [17] of University of Phoenix for $550 million.
