The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), led by CEO Tony Campbell, is an industry body representing the supply side of the UK Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs) ( motorcycles, scooters and mopeds) and Powered Light Vehicles (PLVs), which include motorcycle and car-derived motor tricycles, commonly referred to as 'trikes' in the UK, as well as light four-wheeled vehicles, commonly referred to as 'L-Category vehicles'.
The MCIA states that it works on behalf of its members to 'create the right conditions for trading and sustained market growth'. The association is not for profit, all membership fees are used in its goals to protect and develop the motorcycle industry.
The association is funded by MCIA members ranging from manufacturers and importers of:

General Members:
The MCIA provides technical information and guidance to its members, for example:
Motorcycle Live - The industry’s showcase and UK’s largest annual motorcycle show is run by MCIA Events Limited.
The MCIA provides data and insights for its members through its Motorcycle Registration Information System (MCRIS) in addition to publicly available data that is free to use on its website. The monthly Press Statistics Report details the number of new PTW and PLV registrations by class of vehicle and is permitted to be used so long as the MCIA is referenced as the source. [1]
The organisation engages in press campaigns to educate and inform:
Motorcycle Safety - MCIA CEO (Tony Campbell) spoke at the National Road Safety Conference, which included industry and government delegates, about the risks to motorcyclists as vulnerable road users, who constitute only 1% of UK traffic and 20% of fatalities. [2]
Motorcycle Theft (Prevention) - The MCIA is a member of the Motorcycle Crime Reduction Group (MCRG) and created the MCIA SECURED [3] security rating to enable buyers to compare security across different models of motorcycle with a rating from 1 to 5 stars.
Attracting Young People - Challenges facing the motorcycle industry in attracting young riders and young workers, with an ageing demographic of motorcyclists and a growing skills shortage (particularly motorcycle technicians). [4]
Motorcycle Licences - The MCIA has set out licence change proposals to improve access to motorcycles for young people, environmental impacts and safety for motorcyclists in their licence change proposal: “A Licence to Net Zero – Unleashing our Potential, Licence Reform Essential”. [5]
Future of Motorcycling - MCIA collaboration with Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) to present a ‘Journey to a Brighter Destination’ [6], making the case for why motorcycling as a leisure activity, primarily using higher-powered motorcycles, must be protected as the Government heads towards a net zero future. [7]
The MCIA considers itself to be 'the authoritative voice of the sector', lobbying UK government agencies and key stakeholder groups such as DVSA, DVLA, DfT, TfL, London Mayor’s Office, Police and in Europe through ACEM.
Parallel Imports - The MCIA was invited by the Parliamentary Trade and Industry Committee to submit a memorandum on issues relating to price differentials, the operation of the motorcycle market and parallel imports (also known as ' grey imports'). [8]
Net Zero (Electric Vehicles) - In a consultation paper on the 'Phase Out' of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) powered machines to the Environment and Climate Change Committee ( Electric Vehicles Consultation), the MCIA accepts that PTWs have a role to play in reducing CO2 emmissions, however it also states PTWs should not be the priority target. [9]
