Mayumi Kasuga, born July 4th, 1985 is a Japanese-Malaysian singer, songwriter, producer, actor and a businesswoman. [1]
She has emerged as a promising figure in Malaysia's entertainment industry, underscoring the notion that exceptional talent can be found in the most unassuming of individuals. Transitioning seamlessly from the silver screen to the center stage, this multifaceted personality is making waves across various platforms. While she excels as a businesswoman majorly in Malaysia's tourism sector, her true passion lies in music, with aspirations of captivating audiences with her vocal ability.
Mayumi made her first debut in the entertainment industry as the lead singer of the pop girl group Teen Frenzy in 2002, following her victory in the PEPSI-Britney Spears singing competition the same year. However, her primary focus at the time was on her acting career, rather than pursuing singing as her main endeavor.
In 2023, after being in the Malaysian entertainment industry for over 20 years, Mayumi finally released her first single as a solo artist entitled "Satu”. This contemporary pop ballad includes collaborations with Malaysian rappers Fhan and Amzar Sabri, as well as industry luminaries like Mingaling, Yuka Kharisma, IMGK, and Madebyartin.
In March 2024, Resorts World Genting (RWG) and Lamborghini Owners Malaysia (LOM) joined forces in organizing record-breaking attempts for the largest Lamborghini gathering in Malaysia and the highest-altitude Lamborghini gathering in Malaysia. The event was a huge success with a total of 168 fierce Lamborghini supercars gathered up in the Genting Grand car park, creating a jaw-dropping spectacle that have earned them two new Malaysia Book of Records entries. During the celebratory gala dinner, the spotlight shone on Mayumi, the sole female performer of the evening. She electrified the stage alongside rapper Roc8, premiering their event anthem "Lambo." Mayumi captivated the audience with her latest hit "Satu" and concluded her performance with the crowd-favorite "Jom Jalan," a vibrant tourism-themed multilingual composition inviting all to relish the enchantment of Malaysia. The track featured a collaboration of diverse cultural rap artists: RJ Helmy (Malay), Roc8 (Chinese), and Alan D. (Indian).
The night concluded with an unforgettable performance by the legendary Datuk Zainal Abidin and his band, leaving attendees with a memorable and soul-stirring experience.
In the nascent stages of her career within the Malaysian entertainment industry, Mayumi was fortunate to collaborate with prominent Malaysian figures in numerous Telemovies and Films. Her pivotal moment arrived when she secured leading roles in productions such as "Shuffle Miliku," "Shah Rukh Khan Datang Kampung," "Dia," and "Rumah Sewa RM50."
Mayumi's entrepreneurial acumen is unparalleled, driven by an unyielding passion for business and an indomitable commitment to success. Possessing a discerning vision for spotting opportunities and a talent for translating concepts into tangible accomplishments, she has curated a varied and prosperous array of ventures. Whether navigating the vibrant domain of fashion, the complex network of import-export, or the fluid landscape of tourism, Mayumi has made a significant impact in every sector she has ventured into.
In 2023, she made a significant impact by establishing Ms. RFC, an unprecedented all-female exclusive 4x4 extreme motorsport race affiliated with the Rainforest Challenge. This pioneering initiative not only reflects her passion for adventure and excitement but also serves to empower women to challenge limits and defy stereotypes within a traditionally male-dominated realm.
Mayumi was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to a multicultural background. Her father hails from Osaka, Japan, with Japanese-Korean heritage, while her mother is from Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Mayumi is proficient in Mandarin, English, Malay, and Japanese. Although her primary languages are Malay and English but she converses in Japanese with her father and honed her Mandarin skills during her education at a Chinese school from Kindergarten through Primary school.
Mayumi is a single mother to Amira Asami, her 18-year-old daughter who harbors ambitions of becoming a fashion designer and stylist. Inspired by her mother's journey, Amira is charting her own course in the entertainment industry, aspiring to a singing career. Notably, Amira is also fluent in English, Malay, and Mandarin languages.
