Kristiana Chan is a Malaysian-Chinese artist, writer, and educator, based in the Bay Area. In her art practice, she researches the political, historical, and environmental heritage of the landscape and its material elements. She incorporates the environmental and elemental properties of these landscapes into her artistic processes. [1] Chan is an interdisciplinary artist, and works in video projection, archival photography, sound collage, and cut paper in addition to experimental photographic chemical processes. [2]
Chan is a Teaching Artist Mentor with the Performing Arts Workshop [3] and a member of West Oakland based CTRL+SHFT Collective.
Chan received a BA with Honors in Studio Art and Art History from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC. [4]
Chan’s work has been exhibited at SOMArts, [5] Thacher Gallery at the University of San Francisco, [6] The Growlery SF, [7] Root Division, in San Francisco, CA [8]; Vessel Gallery, Oakland, CA [9]; START Gallery, Winston-Salem, NC, [4] [10] among others.
Chan was awarded the Rydell Visual Arts Fellowship, Santa Cruz, CA [11] [12] and a residency at The Growlery, San Francisco, CA. [7]
