John Ira Palmer is an American film producer and director. He is a founding partner of Projected Picture Works, a production company formed in 2021 with two-time Academy Award-winner Sean Penn and John Wildermuth. [1]
Palmer is among the producers of the thriller drama Asphalt City (formerly Black Flies), which premiered in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 [2] and is scheduled for theatrical release for March 29, 2024. [3]
He also co-produced the drama Flag Day, a 2021 Cannes competition title.
In August 2022, it was announced that Palmer will produce the political thriller Killers & Diplomats alongside Projected Picture Works partners Sean Penn and John Wildermuth. [4]
Palmer has directed a string of short films, including the National Endowment for the Arts-supported documentary Out of the Corner of Our Eye, [5] which won the Audience Award for Best Platinum Short at the 2023 Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival; [6] Elwood Takes a Lover; [7] and Pitbull. [8]
Palmer teaches producing at USC School of Cinematic Arts [9] and AFI Conservatory. [10]
