Renner-Thompson was born in Princess Mary In The Fields hospital Newcastle upon Tyne in 1991. He was raised in the north Northumberland village of Belford & attended Chatton church of England first school & later The Duchess Community High School Alnwick. He studied BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Farm Business Management at Newcastle University, & FACTS (Fertiliser Advisers Certification and Training Scheme) Qualified at Harper Adams University. He comes from a farming family & maintains close ties to the farming community.

Renner-Thompson was married in 2023 at St Aidens church Bamburgh. He & his wife live within the Bamburgh parish where he is active within the community. He runs his own construction company Lyeham developments [1] & is a director of Bell View [2] is a community based charity supporting older people.
