The Greek successor states were three rump states created by fleeing Greek aristocrats, following the sack of Constantinople by the crusaders of the Fourth Crusade in 1204 [1]. These states were the Empire of Nicaea, the Despotate of Epirus, and the Empire of Trebizond.
