Egarkund is a Community development block. It covers an area of 59.25 km² and a total population of 159,613 out of which 82,857 are male and 76,756 are female. [1][ failed verification]
Jharkhand is one of the states affected by Maoist activities. As of 2012, Dhanbad was one of the highly/moderately affected districts in the state.As of 2016, Dhanbad was not identified as a focus area by the state police to check Maoist activities.
