Duke of La Vega, is a Spanish noble title created with the name of Duchy of La Vega on the Island of Santo Domingo, together with the dignity of Grandee of Spain, by King Philip II of Spain, on 16 March 1557 , in favor of Luis Colón and Álvarez de Toledo, Duke of Veragua and Admiral of the West Indies.
Luis Colón de Toledo, was the son of
Diego Colón and grandson of the discoverer
Christopher Columbus.
Its name refers to
La Vega, today the fourth largest city of the
Dominican Republic.
