Dmitry Osipov (Russian: Осипов Дмитрий Олегович; born on 4 October 1996) is a Russian professional ice hockey defenseman/forward currently playing for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Osipov is a graduate of the Rus’ Sdyusshor Moscow where after completion of the hockey program at the age of 16 he was selected 1st overall in the 2013 KHL entry draft by Amur Khabarovsk. [2] Dmitry was also drafted 1st overall to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) by the Vancouver Giants in 2013. [2] Dmitry opted to pursue the North American route and came to Canada to play juniors. [3]
Dmitry began his North American junior career in 2013, playing with the Vancouver Giants. [4]
Dmitry has earned several awards while playing with Vancouver Giants:
Dmitry has skated in two development camps while being in junior teams: Chicago Blackhawks development camp in 2016 [7], and Vegas Golden Knights development camp in 2017. [8]
After the development camp with Vegas Golden Knights, Osipov started his professional hockey level career with Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL). [9]
In his first full North American season, 2017-18, Osipov played 11 games with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL and spent the majority of the season with the Quad City Mallards of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). [4]
The following season, 2018-19, Dmitry started in the ECHL with the Indy Fuel. After half-season benchmark, Osipov was called up to Rockford Icehogs of the AHL. [4]
Dmitry stayed on Rockford roster for three seasons, then signing with San Diego Gulls. [4] [3]
After signing PTO with Hershey Bears in September 2023, the AHL club has inked Dmitry for the rest of the 2023-2024 season. [10]
During his transition between the 2020–21 and 2021–22 seasons, Osipov had changed his position and started playing as a forward. [11] After that, he has been playing alternating roles.
