The Concordance for Secular Democratic Republic in Iran is a political coalition of republicans formed by five parties and political organizations opposed to the Islamic Republic of Iran. This coalition aims to establish a “Secular Democratic Republic in Iran” and declares its support for sexual minorities (LGBTQ+). The members of this coalition include the Iranian Republican Union, the Iran-European National Front, the Iranian Left Party, the Iranian National Front organizations abroad, and the Union for Secular Republic and Human Rights in Iran. On Friday, 18th of Esfand, 1401 (March 9, 2023), the Harmony for Secular Democratic Republic issued a statement announcing its formation.
On March 9, 1401, five republican parties and organizations announced by issuing a notice that after a period of close cooperation and adopting common political positions regarding the events in Iran, they have improved their relations and entered the coalition process. In this announcement, which also contained an attachment entitled " Hamgami's views for the secular democratic republic in Iran regarding the country's political situation and the women, life, freedom movement ", these parties agreed to compile their common views under the title " Hamgami views " and publish it. They announced in a press conference in early 1402. [1] [2]
The text of this document, consisting of an introduction and ten articles entitled " Charter of Hamgami (Manshor of Hamgami) " was published on April 11, 1402 before holding a press conference by the Secretariat of Hamgami for the Secular Democratic Republic of Iran. [3] [4] Following that, on April 14, 1402, a simultaneous press conference for the democratic secular republic in Iran was held at the Central Library of the University of London, which was attended by Mahmoud Jafari from the Iran-Europe National Front, Behrouz Khaleeq from the Left Party of Iran, Maryam Sotout from the Republican Union of Iran, Mahdieh Golrou. From the Union for secular Repulic and Human Rights in Iran and Homayoun Mehmanesh from the Iranian National Front organizations abroad participated in it. [5]
The establishment of the Hamgami Coalition was met with the reaction of some activists and political organizations. A group of political activists, most of whom were signatories of the statement of 673 secular democratic republicans, welcomed the formation of this coalition by publishing a statement and considered it an effective step in the direction of the formation of the republicanism block in Iran. [6] The People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran published a text on the official website of this organization and announced that it welcomes this coalition "regardless of the history and long-standing political and policy differences". [7] Ehsan Houshmand, a reformist and national-religious political activist, by publishing a note in Sharq newspaper, pointed out the non-use of the word "Iranian nation" and criticized the statement announcing the existence of synchronicity, and called the word "Iranian people" "vague and stretchy and unclear in terminology" Science of Politics" stated that, in his opinion, it shows the lack of belief in the concept of "Iranian nation" which is important for smart people. [8] In response to this memo, the Synchronous Secretariat for the Secular Democratic Republic of Iran published a letter addressed to Shargh newspaper, in which it reminded Houshmand and the reformist Shargh newspaper of the belief of the members of this coalition in the concept of "Iranian nation" and promised to include this term in the text of Hamgami's charter. However, Shargh newspaper refused to publish the letter of Hamgami Secretariat.
Concordance coalition was among the 15 opposition organizations who participated in a campaign to support the 'right to life' [9] [10] [11] [12]. This covenant includes absolute prohibition of execution, torture, and transparent and commensurable judicial procedure.
The charter of the coalition published their on their website [13] ,which includes their foreign and domestic policy positions. [14] [15]
