Christophe Andre Tocco is an American diplomat who is the nominee to serve as the United States ambassador to Mauritania.
Early life and education
Tocco is originally from San Pedro, California. [1] He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Science from the School of Advanced Business Studies (HEC) in Paris, France. [2]
Career
Before joining the Foreign Service, Tocco was a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco. Tocco is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Career Minister. Previously, he served as senior development counselor and U.S. Delegate to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's (OECD) Development Assistance Committee. [2]
Other assignments include USAID mission director within the Democratic Republic of Congo; deputy mission director, Democratic Republic of Congo; and deputy regional mission director with USAID Senegal. Earlier assignments include supervisory program officer for USAID Senegal and for USAID Rwanda and Morocco Country Desk Officer. [2]
On April 11, 2024, President Joe Biden nominated Tocco to serve as the United States ambassador to Mauritania. [3] His nomination is pending before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. [4]
Personal life
Tocco speaks French, Spanish, German, Moroccan Arabic, and Modern Standard Arabic. [2]
