Brandon Gilliard is a musician.
Brandon Gilliard began playing alongside his father in at a small church in South Carolina as a child. As a teenager, he performed in his high school marching band as the drum major and the school’s first electric bassist. He continued his education as a Music Major and graduated in 2005 with a B.A. in Music and a concentration on Double Bass. Immediately after graduation, Brandon moved to Atlanta, GA to further his professional career. Soon afterward he was being called upon as one of Atlanta’s first call studio recording session players.
In 2012 Brandon was hired as the bass player for Janelle Monae. Soon after, he recorded bass on Janelle’s Electric Lady album. During his tenure as her bassist, Brandon performed on shows such as Saturday Night Live, Coachella Festival, The Tonight Show, Austin City Limits, The Super Bowl Pre-Party and many others.
In 2013 Brandon met composer, John Powell on the scoring session for Rio 2. Since then, they have worked together on several other movies, most recently, Migration and STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie. In 2024, STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition. In 2016 Brandon was hired to perform on The Late Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with Lalah Hathaway. He later recorded bass on The Gift with LECRAE and several other artists on the Reach Records label.
