Barada Kanta Mishra (Born 15 June 1959) is the Founding Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Goa. [1] [2] since 2017. He was the Director of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology [3] from 2005 to 2017. He was a Professor in the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur [4].
He is an expert in mineral and metal extraction, powders and particles, environment and waste management, and discrete element method. For his distinguished contributions in these fields, he was elected a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 2009 [5]. He was ranked by Stanford University as the Number 1 scientist of India and Number 11 in the world in the field of Mining and Metallurgy, 2020 [6]. He has guided more than ten PhD students and published several research papers in top journals [7].
He completed his BSc in Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering) from the National Institute of Technology Rourkela in 1981. It was followed by MS (Metallurgical Engineering) from Wayne State University in 1986. Subsequently, he completed PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1991. He joined the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur as a faculty member in 1993 where he served as an Assistant Professor (1993-1997), Associate Professor (1997-2001) and Professor (2001-2011). He has also held visiting appointments at University of Utah and Aston University. He was a Fulbright Scholar in 2002 [8]
