Christopher Chahn Bahng [1] (born 3 October 1997), known professionally by his Korean name Bang Chan ( Korean: 방찬), is a Korean-Australian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. [2] He is the leader and member of the South Korean boy band Stray Kids, debuting under JYP Entertainment in 2018. He is also a member of 3Racha, an in-house production team and sub-unit of Stray Kids. [3] He is one of the most prolific K-pop writers/producers with over 180 songs credited to him. [4] [5]
Christopher Chan Bang was born on 3 October 1997 in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Sydney, Australia. [2] [6] He has a younger sister named Hannah Bahng, who is a singer-songwriter and content creator, and a younger brother. [2] [7] He attended Newtown High School of the Performing Arts where he trained in ballet and modern dance, [2] and also swam competitively. [5] [8] At the age of 13, he passed the 2010 JYP Entertainment Global Audition held in Australia and moved to South Korea to become a trainee. [2] [5] He graduated from Chungdam High School. [9] [10]
In 2016, Bang Chan formed a hip hop group called 3Racha with fellow JYP Entertainment trainees Seo Chang-bin and Han Ji-sung under the pseudonym CB97. They uploaded their first mixtape, J:/2017/mixtape consisting of seven tracks onto SoundCloud. [11]
In mid 2017, a JYP survival show was announced to launch a male idol group debut project headed by him. [12] He was tasked with selecting trainees for forming his group. [5] [8] The members themselves came up with their own group name Stray Kids, fandom name (Stay), and slogan ("Stray Kids Everywhere All Around the World" and "You Make Stray Kids Stay"). [13] [14][ better source needed] Bang Chan officially debuted as the leader of Stray Kids on March 25, 2018, with the stage name Bang Chan. [15]
Along with band mates Han and Changbin, Bang Chan writes and produces the group's music. [8] In addition this, Bang Chan writes music for other artists as well. He has written or produced for artists and groups including NiziU [16], JO1 [17], Sky-Hi [18], and Show Lo [19]. As of December 2023, the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) has 180 songs listed under his name as Bang Chan, Bang Chan (3RACHA), and CB97 for his mixtape, which is the 3rd most of any artist in that organization. [20]
In 2023, Bang Chan along with members Han and Changbin were three of the 25 artists of the year to be promoted to regular members of the KOMCA based on the amount of royalties earned in the past three years as of December 31. [21]

In May 2024, he made his Met Gala debut with Stray Kids as the guest of Tommy Hilfiger. [22] In June 2024 Bang Chan attended the Fendi's 2025 Spring/Summer men's fashion show as an ambassador for the brand. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
In August 2023 Bang Chan, alongside Stray Kids members Changbin and Han, performed in the annual Global Citizen Festival. [7] [8] After their set, which included some of their more popular songs, they spoke to the audience regarding the need for change to end world poverty, the main goal of Global Citizen Festival. [9]
In December 2023 Bang Chan co-hosted the 4th JYP EDM Day, an annual summarizing the company's social contributions throughout the year, alongside Park Jin-young and Jihyo of Twice. He took part in the Love Earth Challenge campaign, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and prevent ocean acidification by doing everyday activities such as walking, cycling, unplugging, and going vegetarian. Chan also participated in a project where he met with children who aspire to be singers and dancers and taught them choreography from Stray Kids' songs [10]
