This species occurs in the Red Sea and in the Indian Ocean off Aldabra, Chagos, Kenya, Madagascar, the Mascarene Basin, Mauritius, Réunion, the Seychelles, and Tanzania.
A fossil has been found in Pliocene or Pleistocene strata on Guam, Mariana Islands. [2]
