Cinta Beruang ( transl. Bear love) is a 2012 Malaysian Malay-language comedy film directed by Ramanarayanan and starring Nabil Ahmad and Jue Aziz. The film is a remake of the Indian Malayalam film My Dear Karadi (1999). [1]
In 2011, Rama Narayanan began work on the Tamil remake of the Malayalam film My Dear Karadi (1999) titled Siva Poojayil Karadi. The film was to be set in Malaysia with Shiva reprising Kalabhavan Mani's role and Vennira Aadai Moorthy, M. S. Bhaskar and Subbu Panchu in other roles. [2] [3] The music was to be composed by Sundar C. Babu. [1] [4] The film began filming in early 2011. [5] The film resumed shooting in 2012, [6] and it ended up being directed by P. Balaji with Rama Narayanan as the producer and remained unreleased despite finishing shooting. [7]
The film was to also be made into a Malay film in 2012, [8] which was initially titled Cinta Buruwa. This film marked the director's Malay debut. [9] Nabil Ahmad said he accepted to star in the film because he wanted to gain experience from working with an Indian director. [8] The film takes place in the National Zoo of Malaysia near Kuala Lumpur. [10]
A critic from Kosmo! wrote that "The determination to produce the film is there but the effort to give meaning to a film is not visible". [10] A critic wrote that "This film seems, which I saw based on the production, to be made by Indians; it does look like a Tamil / Hindi film that uses Malaysian as the language of conversation. Ramanarayanan seems to be so involved with Tamil comedy that if you are a die-hard Hindi or Tamil viewer, you will realize that his comedy is not a Malaysian comedy. [11]
