Baphiastrum is a genus of flowering plants in the legume family ( Fabaceae). It includes a single species, Baphiastrum brachycarpum, a liana native to west-central Africa. [2] It grows in Guineo-Congolian forest in Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, and Democratic Republic of the Congo. [1]
It belongs to the subfamily Faboideae. Baphiastrum was traditionally assigned to the tribe Sophoreae; [3] however, recent molecular phylogenetic analyses reassigned Baphiastrum to the Baphieae tribe. [4] [5]
