Arjuman Shaheen (born 28 November 1953 in Lahore) is a Pakistani newscaster at Radio Pakistan and PTV and a short story writer. [1]
Shaheen's parents were from Uttar Pradesh during British India but after the partition of India her family migrated to Pakistan and settled in Lahore, [2] [1] where Arjumand was born on 28 November 1953. [3] She is the elder sister of actors Shehryar Zaidi, Shahnawaz Zaidi and newscaster Yasmeen Wasti. [1]
She received a Master of Arts from the University of Lahore. [3]
Shaheen started working at Radio Pakistan in 1972, where she worked for two years as a news reader for local news, then later she worked as a sports commentator. [3] [4] She was later contacted by a director from PTV Centre, and eventually was selected for PTV Khabarnama. [5] [6] She used to announce news about important events, such as about Kashmir and business related news. [3] Later she also wrote a short story book which was published in 1978. [4] In the 1980s, she also worked in Milaads. [7]
In the 1980s, Shaheen worked as a newsreader at daily reading News in Khabrnama which used to air on 9 pm. [1]
In 1982, she was awarded Nigar Award for Best Newscaster. [8]
In 1999, she was honored by the Government of Pakistan with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for her contributions to the Media and Radio Industry. [9]
Later, she moved abroad with her family to London and worked as a short story writer. She wrote a book Mausam Ki Baarish and then she wrote another short story Be Mausam Ki Barish. [10]
Shaheen married Mazahir Zaidi and has two daughters also her aunt Azra Asghar is a noval writer. [4]
